Yeah more episodes by Extra Credits, he has an episode talking about gamification in schools, were homework, class work, projects were turned into quests and such. From what I recall it was something about how our current grading system is a negative reinforcement, answering wrong on a quiz gets you a loss of points. Instead they set it up so that you turned in your 'quests' and gained points or exp toward your goals. The numbers i guess break down the same but its the way its presented to the brain that matters.
This has nothing to do with idle games because in idle games you progress while being idle. Here you need to do something to change your rating. My Chinese colleague also says that what our press says about this system is pretty much bullshit. Besides, there are already several ratings similar to our credit ratings available and actively used in China. And the sad truth that it's not even about China. It's happening here and now, there are just no actual numbers.
Scary Games For Real Life
It makes it harder and harder to find a job without a linkedin profile. And HR managers actually check your and your friend's and family's facebook pages before interviewing you. And if you don't have one they ask you if you have something to hide.
And from your Facebook page they'll get all the information they are strictly forbidden to ask on the interviews, like your religion, political believes, skin color, healthiness, sexual orientation, etc. And it really isn't something that is shocking because it is 'game-ified', it's shocking because it's a the crazy machination of a totalitarian regime. It's really not much different from what similar insitutions have done before with more 'primitive' methods. It's not more of a 'game' because you have a (public) score. Those benefits were also very clear to participants in similar earlier systems, even if it didn't have the convenience of such a system.
That includes the 'bad apples' in form of badly rated friends. I guess the only valuable portion of this (aside maybe from generally informing about it) is the warning that while it may seem like fun if you just hear about it without thinking much into it, it's actually dreadful.
